c. 1770-1800 Hand-Engraved Decorative Powder Horn
c. 1770-1800 Revolutionary War Era, Early American Hand-Engraved “Folk Art” Pennsylvania Style Decorative Powder Horn, Very Fine.
An original American Hand-Engraved Powder Horn, measuring about 11.5” long x 2.75” wide end, with a typical wooden cap attached by period iron pins at the wide end. The natural patina of the surface is decoratively carved towards the spout end. There are a variety of interesting figures and images within the designs including a full-length depiction of a 3 Masted Sailing Ship. In addition, other vignettes include: a Turkey, a Fish, a Duck, plus a Man walking. There are a variety of complex attractive Geometric and Floral pattern designs indicative of Pennsylvania origin. This impressive “Folk Art” style Powder Horn indeed shows actual light overall true wear from use and lacks the small end wooden spout plug. A nice authentic and original period Powder Horn with its natural tone, iron pins at the end cap, with scrimshaw work that is attractive for display.
