Scarce Size French Side-By-Side Double Barrel Flintlock Pistol
c. 1750 French & Indian War and American Revolutiony Era Use, Medium Size French Double Side-By-Side Barrel ‘2-Shot’ Flintlock Pistol, by ‘DUAPHINE’, Choice Very Fine.
A wonderful example of a French Medium Size Double Barrel Side-By-Side Flintlock Pistol, by ‘DUAPHINE’, circa. 1750. Its barrel measures 6” long, .55 caliber, with round steel side-by-side smooth-bore barrels having decorative gold overlay (approx. 40% remaining). All of the steel furniture has a pleasing dark brown natural age patina. It has a steel ram rod and its locks are maker signed. It is our opinion that both cocks have likely been replaced with English cocks. This pistol is in its original Flintlock configuration. The stock is solid, and has excellent quality decorative high-relief carving, noted especially around the barrel tang and in front of the trigger guard. As typical with light scratches and dings from its years of service and handling. It appears to be the perfect ‘2-Shot’ pistol for traveling. It absolutely may have seen actual service in the either or both the French & Indian War, and the American Revolution.
