This British 1st Model Long Land Pattern Contract Brown Bess Flintlock Ship's Musket is in good mechanical working order. Measuring 54.5" in overall length. The majority of these Muskets started out with 46" barrels and over time were reduced in length because of how cumbersome they were when being used onboard their Royal Navy ships. An attractive Musket for display, this rare Colonial America, French and Indian War to Revolutionary War Period Use, Brown Bess Flintlock Ship's Musket was made by a Contractor to the Tower of London, having his maker-mark "R WATKIN". It has a 38", .75 caliber smoothbore round barrel has a nice deep natural patina. Struck with early private proofs on the top left side of the breech. Engraved "No. 11" on the top. British banana shaped lock, maker engraved "R WATKIN". Its all brass furniture includes a Pattern 1st Model Brown Bess side plate, butt plate, wrist escutcheon, ram rod pipes, plus a private pattern trigger guard which retains a pleasing yellow-brass patina. This Long Gun is in its original Flintlock configuration with an older replacement wood ramrod. Its classic form stock has a modest stress crack located on the underside on the left side of the trigger guard. Overall, a solid gun with its original varnish, having some expected light scratches and dings from years of actual use in service.
