c. 1630 Early Colonial Period Figural Pewter Spoon Rarity
c. 1630 Early Colonial Period, Decorative Dual Figural “Husband and Wife” Pewter Spoon, Choice Very Fine.
Perhaps the most ornately detailed example of this very rare Colonial period Spoon we have encountered. It is made of a well designed mold in cast pewter that is lightly worn from actual use. It measures about 6 7/8” long, the figures being just over 1.25” tall and the spoon bowl about 2” in diameter. The “Husband and Wife” figures show excellent detail, likely this spoon was presented as a wedding gift, there being a vignette of a Winged Cherub with Bow and Arrow indicative of love, just below. There are various other decorative devices along the top side and outwards are the center portion. The bowl is deep and has a very original lightly used appearance with two trivial nicks at its top rim edge. Overall, the natural rich patina shows this example to be original and untouched. An exceptionally clean and impressive early Colonial “Husband and Wife” Pewter Spoon.
