Featured in this lot is this Zapotec, tightly woven bandas Saltillo rug, circa 1960's. The rug shows a maroon field with bands of stepped decoration and coloration of light grey, grey, black, and brown; it features a medallion in the center, which features colors of black, grey, and light grey. Zapotec rugs are wool-woven in a foot loom in Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca. The town has a pre-Hispanic weaving tradition and is world famous for its fine tapestries and wall hangings decorated with traditional Zapotec and Mixtec fretwork, idols, animals, or reproductions of famous creations by artists like Diego Rivera, Pablo Picasso, and M.C. Esher. The condition of this rug is good, with no obvious signs of damage. The measurements of this rug are 21" x 18 3/4".
