Presented in this lot is a Zapotec Hand Woven Open Weave Table Runner, circa late century. It is made by the Zapotec Indians in in Oaxaca, Mexico. The Zapotec are significant because 400 years ago the Spanish missionaries taught the Navajo and Zapotec how to weave, these practices are still mastered today in both Zapotec and Navajo tribes. A unique feature of this rug / table runner is the two open weavings flanking the center stepped design. Another unique feature is the inclusion of two different stepped medallion designs at either end. One medallion is bordered by solid horizontal colour bands while the opposite medallion has a dentil design colour separation between two solid colour bands. Both ends are finished with fringe. Measures 16"W x 68"L.
