The silkscreen in colors offered here by Chinese-French artist Zao Wou-Ki was created for the occasion of an exhibition of Carl van der Voort Gallery in Ibiza, published and printed in 1972 by Carl van der Voort. Zao Wou-Ki first learned traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy, among others, and later turned to Western painting. In his art Zao Wou-Ki combines the tradition of ink painting with rhythmically abstract motifs. This is probably due to the influences of the early years in Paris from 1947 on, where he came in contact with the style of lyrical abstraction that is seen as a precursor of the Informal movement which avoids the style of geometric constructivism.

The silkscreen is inscribed with pencil épreuve d'artiste ‘E.A.’ and monogrammed ‘ZWK’. The sheet is trimmed and matted as well as mounted with stripes of tape at the reverse sheet edges. Overall very good condition. The full sheet image measures 13.9 x 14 cm, the framed dimensions are 34.5 x 28.5 cm. The frame and mat with slight traces of use.
