Interesting archive of Zane Grey materials, including a signed first edition book, a signed check, a typed manuscript for his short story "The Great Slave," and a magazine in which the story first appeared. Includes:

- a first edition of Tappan's Burro, published by Harper & Brothers in 1923, hardcover with dust jacket, signed on the first free end page in purple ink, "Zane Grey." The half-title page bears his "Zane Grey" blindstamp, and the table of contents bears a note in pencil by his secretary and mistress, Mildred Smith: "Mr. Grey received $7,000 for the first story—Tappan's Burro." This marked the first appearance of Grey's story "The Great Slave" in book form.

- a personal check filled out and signed by Grey, "Zane Grey," payable to Mildred K. Smith for $3150, August 10, 1927.

- an unsigned typed manuscript for the story "The Great Slave," 22 pages, 8.5 x 11, with his "Zane Grey" blindstamp at the head of the first page.

- a complete issue of The Ladies' Home Journal from December 1920, 196 pages, 10.75 x 16, in which the story "The Great Slave" first appeared.

In overall very good to fine condition, with edgewear and some creasing to the magazine.
