Zachary Taylor: Rare Daguerreotype of Painting
Zachary Taylor: A Very Rare Daguerreotype of a Painted Portrait in Military Uniform. Our research has failed to turn up either the painting itself or the artist's name; however, the features are unmistakably Taylor's, and he is typically posed in his general's uniform. Interestingly, the hilt of his saber is seen in the lower left hand corner. Presumably the painting was a full portrait, the central portion of which is photographed here. Condition is basically beautiful with a very strong image. A few trivial scattered spots, none on the portrait itself, detract minimally. A very elegant and arresting image. It is housed in an immaculate embossed leatherette case. The velvet cushion side bears the imprint of Brady's New York Gallery. The case appears to be original, and it is entirely possible that someone brought the painted portrait to Brady's gallery to photograph. However, we cannot be absolutely certain that this is the original case. From the collection of Stanley King. Dimensions: 2.25" x 2.75" (dag. only), open dimensions: 6.2" x 3.75".

Shipping: Small Collectibles (view shipping information)
