ZHUKOV, GEORGI K.
(1896 - 1974) Soviet Field Marshall, perhaps the greatest general of World War II, he survived crushing poverty and Stalin's purges to command the Russian armies at the monumental battles of Moscow and Kursk, and in the taking of Berlin. Fine content T.Ms.S. with multiple holograph additions, 11pp. 4to., [Moscow], Jan. 13, 1967, a tribute by Zhukov to Gen. Gai Dmitrievich, a leading commander in the Red Army: "…who courageously vindicated the independence of our Soviet State…[his name] should be inscribed in gold letters in the history of the Red Army's armed struggle against the White Russian Guards and interventionists…" Zhukov opens his manuscript with a few quotes by Lenin and a short history of the Civil War, stating that of utmost importance was the party's decision "to create a regular Red Army, capable of destroying the unified counter-revolutionary forces and of defending the young Soviet state…" Zhukov carefully describes Gai's role as head of the first army of the Russian front, and the 3rd cavalry of the western front, and then reminiscences about their first meeting and the impression Zhukov had of the man and his military talents. Much more fine content, overall very good.
