ZDENKA BRAUNEROVA 1858 Prague - 1934 Prague Talk in the Atelier
before 1917, oil on canvas, 67 x 95 cm, signed lower left Zdenka Braunerova, framed Literature: Miloslav Vlk, Zdenka Braunerova, Prague 1994, Starting Price: CZK 280,000; USD 8.200; EUR 9.316, Estimated price: (300,000 - 320,000) CZK., The authenticity of the painting has been verified by PhDr. Miroslav Vlk on May 15, 2001. An exceptionally interesting work by the famous Czech painter and graphic artist Zdenka Braunerova, capturing the intimate scene from her atelier - a boudoir in Roztoky u Prahy in period Art Nouveau style. In the darkened room only dimly lit by a red table lamp a lady lies on a sofa and talks to a seated young man leaning slightly forward and smoking a cigarette pensively. That is all. The theme of this intimate talk will forever remain a mystery, with the use of comparing analysis it is possible to identify the characters in the scene with a high probability that it is the art critic Milos Marten (proper name M. Sebesta, 1883 - 1917) and his wife Anna Martenova. They both were among the closest friends of the artist and the most common visitors of her then current country snuggery near Prague.
