Yuri Gagarin ANS
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Typed manuscript twice-signed by Yuri Gagarin with numerous annotations, corrections and diagrams in his hand, regarding computer aided analysis of flight conditions dated 24 January 1968, two months before his death. Signed on the second page, immediately preceding an autograph note again signed by Gagarin which reads, ''Irina, please leave empty spaces--approximately 10 cm each--for the diagrams in the text paper, where marked, and the rest is without change. Gagarin''. Document, in Russian, is accompanied by full translation. Written while attending the Zhukowski Military Academy, document involves computer aided analysis of flight conditions, similar to the conditions that would cause Gagarin's death in a routine flight mission on 27 March 1968. Document reads in part, ''...Computer aided numerical analysis. 2. Experimental research in wind tunnels. An aerodynamic design of an aircraft was chosen and its aerodynamics (is) analyzed, according to Zhukovsky theorem, 'the smaller' holds the distributed load, which affects the wing, the results of theoretical calculations made on a BESM-2M electronic computer are shown on the diagrams to be able to evaluate the landing dynamics of an aircraft, its flying properties, knowledge of the static performance alone is not enough data for the damping moment by angular velocity and by shifting the center of gravity of the aircraft can serve as an example...Gagarin 24.1.68.'' Two-page document measures 7.25'' x 10.75'', with mathematical diagrams in Gagarin's hand on verso of each sheet. Light soiling and toning, otherwise near fine condition.
