Yuma,AZ - c1895 - Pioneer Merchant Displays Goods Photograph *Territorial* :
E. F. Sanguinetti displays his goods, perhaps on the Fourth of July. Photograph measures 8 1/4”x6 1/4”, black single matte 9 3/4”x7 3/4”, high to medium contrast—minor yellowing, and the focus is sharp. Matte suffers from wear on the edges and the lower left corner is missing. Photograph has remained secure from the wear on the matte. Yuma is located in the Southwest corner of the state along the Colorado River. Sanguinetti bought an adobe home in Yuma in 1890. The home was a two room structure built in the 1870s. The adobe abode is now a Historic Site with an established marker. Sanguinetti lived there until his death in 1946. Portrayed is a young Sanguinetti displaying his hardware department on a four mule-team wagon. The display is quite extravagant and includes an ax head sign hanging over the owner. The store sign to the far left may be his store in Yuma. Given the plethora of American Flags displayed on the wagon, this may be a Fourth of July advertisement/celebration.
