Yul Brynner screen-worn silk jacket from his Oscar-winning performance in ''The King & I''. Brynner originated the role of King Mongkut of Siam on Broadway and reprises the role for the 1956 film adaptation by 20th Century Fox, for which this jacket was made. Jacket in steel blue Thai silk with gold threads was commissioned by the film's acclaimed costume designer Irene Sharaff, who herself won the Best Costume Oscar for her work on this film. Custom jacket by Western Costume has Brynner's name typed on the label along with production number 2037-1, and measures 44 chest, 34 sleeve, 16 collar. Jacket is fully lined, zips up the front and fastens at the collar with a snap and hook-and-eye closure. Near fine. With provenance from Butterfields.
