Placerville Mining District, El Dorado County, Cal. (printed along top). Inc. Feb. 10th, 1864. No 104, issued for 50 shares to BW Thomson on June 3rd, 1864 in San Francisco. Signed by president G.S. Ashmead and secretary John Crowley. Not cancelled. Black border and print, grey background and red boxes for numbers and signatures. Small vignette of a young boy with an oar in his hand. Printed by Agnew & Deffebach, SF. One 25 cent adhesive IR stamp attached on the left, pen cancelled. Folds, a few nicks along the edges, small stains, and a couple of holes in the stock. 5.25 x 9.5" Not in Filer or Holabird indexes. Browne (1868) reports the Harmon Mine as being 1,400 ft. long, just north of Placerville on a vein that is 100 yards west of the Pacific lode. The vein averages 4-5 feet wide, though reaches up to 30 ft. Browne says it was worked successfully with arrastras and paid well. They erected a 15 stamp mill that was not profitable and is idle. They are having trouble reducing the undecomposed sulphurets found below the water-line. The vein is quartz with seams of black slate and sulphurets of iron and lead (pg. 87).
