Crippa </B></I>and <I>1877<BR></B></I>Sculpture: 38-1/2 inches high, 18-1/2 inches wide, 21 inches deep<BR>Marble, wood<BR><BR> In this large and ambitious figural group representing a child and a retriever, Luigi Crippa's skill in harmonizing complex shapes and forms is amply apparent.<BR><BR>Crippa achieved considerable celebrity for his work as a sculptor of genre figures of this type. He was born and trained at the Art Academy in Milan, and first exhibited his work in 1859 at the Turin Exposition where his youthful efforts won an award. He received commissions in Rome, Florence, Turin and Milan, where his work in preserved in private and public collections.
