Young Allies Comics #1 (Timely, 1941) CGC NM 9.4 Off-white pages. Just a few months after Joe Simon and Jack Kirby gave us Captain America, they created the Young Allies. The Young Allies were S&K's first kid group, and they made their first appearance in this issue, which also tells their origin story. The team was made up of Captain America's sidekick Bucky Barnes, the Human Torch's pal Toro, and a colorful crew of like-minded youngsters. Another occurrence that made this a Timely milestone was the first-ever meeting of the Human Torch and Captain America. Interest in this comic is on the ascent, evidenced by the issue moving up an impressive 14 notches in Overstreet's annual ranking of the Top Golden Age Books. The wild, entertaining covers of this title's run are a main reason that it's a favorite of collectors, and this one's among the best. The scene, drawn by Kirby and Syd Shores, shows Adolf Hitler and the Red Skull getting a well-deserved beat down. The appearance of the two Nazi fiends is in itself significant. The Skull appeared on a total of six Timely covers, der Fuehrer on just couple more than that, and although they appeared together in several stories over the years, this is the only Timely cover on which the Dastardly Duo appeared together. The interior art is by Charles Nicholas, and the story is by a fellow who knew what teenagers liked because he was still a teen himself - Stan Lee. We tip our hats to the collector who preserved this comic in such amazing shape over these many decades. The colors look great, as does the page quality. Only one copy of this issue has been certified with a higher grade by CGC to date. Overstreet 2004 NM- 9.2 value = $21,000.

Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
