Acrylic on masonite. Featuring an abstract expressionist composition. Signed Jac Son Yu on the lower left corner. Attributed to You Shaozhan, Jackson Yu (1911-1999, Chinese). 120.5 x 89.5 cm (47.4 x 35.2 inches). Framed size: 123 x 92 cm (48.4 x 26.2 inches). You Shaozhan (1911-1999, Chinese) has actively participated in the Hong Kong art scene since the late 1950's. He was an enthusiastic abstract oil painter and opened his own gallery, the Sally Jackson Art Gallery in 1963. Even though the gallery was finally closed down in 1967, You Shaozhan still remains active in art circle. He was an active member of the Illustrious Circle Art Group which included the foremost avant-garde Hong Kong artists like Hon Chi-fun, Cheung Yee, Van Lau etc. PROVENANCE: This lot carries limited provenance from a Northeastern American estate (MA). Acquired from above by Private American collection (Waltham, MA).
