<B>Yoruba (Nigeria)</B></I><BR>Tray for Ifa Divination, <I>opon ifa</B></I><BR>Wood, patination<BR>Height: 18 ¾ inches Width: 18 ¼ inches Depth: 1 5/8 inches<BR><BR>This large and richly-decorated <I>opon ifa</B></I> must have belonged to a successful diviner who could justify this scale. From the usual top center Eshu head a rather large number and variety of primarily animal effigies fan out. These include a pangolin, several different quadrupeds, a turtle, and a crested bird. A looped snake holds animal prey in its mouth. The condition is good.<BR><BR> Provenance: Thomas D.
