Below the neck are two overlapping tiers of five-lobed devices that appear to be costume panels. These panels are decorated with fine-unit patterns in very low relief. Below these is the spool-like handle of the staff. A central vertical crack runs from top to bottom of one side of the axes at top. A second vertical crack runs along the right side of one of the heads. A third crack system runs intermittently down the side opposite the head edge crack. A loss from the base lies behind that last crack's terminus. There is a base crack opposite it.

Devotees of Shango carry wands such as this in dances to honor Shango and in which they seek to be possessed by the god.

Provenance: H.
