Fringe: 16 inches Height:Handle:12 ½ inches Width: 1 7/8 inches<BR><BR>This leather flywhisk is surmounted by a compact carved wood figure of a human being, kneeling and holding in his left hand what appears to be a calabash vial, and in the left, an animal horn. Multicolored seed beads adorn the figure, which may represent the trickster god, Eshu/Elegba. Flywhisks are used by leaders, as well as priests and priestesses of several Yoruba cults, including that devoted to Eshu. The condition is good with only minor fringe loss.<BR><BR>Provenance: H.
