<B>Yoruba (Nigeria)</B></I><BR>Diviner's Necklace<BR>Beads, cloth, leather<BR>Length: 37 1/8 inches Width of Flaps: 6 ½ inches<BR><BR>This elaborate neck ornament is comprised of two flat pouch-like elements with fringes (these do not open, but are said to contain medicines to empower and protect the diviner) connected by two identical chains of six precisely-spaced beaded cylinders each linked to the others by loose beaded strands. All the applied beading and the connecting strands are in good preservation. Numbers of the individual beaded flap-fringe elements are missing. There is wear on the backs of the cloth flaps.<BR><BR>Provenance: H.
