Yellowstone National Park in Photogravure
Yellowstone National Park in Photogravure. Published and Copyrighted 1891 by F. Jay Haynes & Bro. (Photo-Gravure Co.: Chicago, 1891), first edition thus, Title page, Contents Page, plus 25 black-and-white plates with protective tissue, brown decorative cloth binding with gilt and black lettering on front board, floral endpapers, oblong folio (13.75" x 10.75"). Haynes was the official photographer for both the Northern Pacific Railroad and Yellowstone National Park, given the latter honor by the Department of the Interior in 1884 following his stint as official photographer for President Arthur's excursion party through the park the year before. This volume is a complimentary edition to Haynes' original 1887 release of his sepia-toned photographs of Yellowstone, as the original contains some plates not included in this version, and vice versa. Haynes' photographs are striking no matter the publication, and this book is yet another example of his brilliant work with the world's first national park. Yellowstone National Park in Photogravure is in good condition, with noticeable wear to the edges and spine, bumped corners, and mild rubbing to the boards. The textblock is a touch shaken, and some of the plates show mild thumb-soiling, but overall the interior plates are clean and bright in this wonderful compendium of Haynes' Yellowstone masterworks.

Shipping: Books & Catalogs (view shipping information)
