The youngest major general in the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II and a member of the surrender party aboard the battleship Missouri (1901–1972). TLS signed “Y. Nagai,” one page, 8.25 x 8.25, September 4, 1966. Response to an autograph request. In part: “Thank you for your letter…informing me of your collection of World War II commanders. I was chosen as a member of the staff to the surrender ceremony because I was major general and the acting chief of the Army Affairs Bureau in the Department of the Army at the end of the war.” In very good condition, with intersecting folds, blocks of toning, chips to the right edge, and a large repaired tear to the lower right. Accompanied by an unsigned photo and unsigned letter from Nagai’s son.
