<B>[Chelsea Quinn Yarbro] </B></I><B><I>Four Horses for Tishtry</B></I></B></I><B> Production Archive.</B></I> <BR>Published by Harper & Row in 1985, <I>Four Horses for Tishtry</B></I> was set during the Roman Empire and told the story of a young woman's determination to win her family's freedom from slavery by performing daring stunts on horseback. Offered here is the production archive for that book.<BR>Every publication goes through a series of production steps, as reflected by the items in this archive: the marked-up proofreader's copy, the marked-up galleys, the marked-up blue lines, and eventually a "hand-folded sample" of the final book. Each of these pieces (save the final sample) bears handwritten comments and glued-on notes from multiple people - proofreaders, editors, typesetters, layout specialists, and so on. The hands-on nature of this work is evident through the many smudges, stains, creases, tears, and chips that appear on the items offered here. Of course, with each iteration of the book, those notations and marks grow fewer and fewer, until we come to the final "clean" sample, which is what goes to the printer and eventually lands on bookstore shelves.
