<B>Yaka (Democratic Republic of Congo)</B></I><BR>Slit Drum (<I>Nkoko ngombo</B></I>)<BR>Wood, beads, button, cord<BR>Height: 15 ¼ inches Width: 3 7/8 inches Depth: 4 1/8 inches<BR><BR>This full-sized slit drum still has a well-used striking stick attached. As with most slit drums, this one can produce several tones, depending where on the lip it is struck. This size drum, too, could be employed in the mixing of medicines to be used in a variety of ways. The addition of the beads indicates the value placed on this particular drum. There are a few insect holes in the proper left lower half, as well as some minor abrasion overall. The striking stick is heavily cracked, with the lower forty percent separating along the cracks.<BR><BR>Provenance: H.
