This is a hand knotted rug from Yahyalý, Central Anatolian (Cappadocia) region, Turkey. The rug is made with traditional wool on wool 100% and is hand dyed with organic dyes. The piece has a wonderful design and isfrom the 1950's. The rug shows dyes such as saffron, root of the wild madder, and more. Anatolian women and girls transpose all their feelings and thoughts onto their carpets by transforming the knots into motifs andattributing certain meanings to each one of them. Yahyalý carpets are no exception. One of the most important carpet weaving centers in Cappadocia, Yahyali's weavers use deep color like dark red and dark blue. Thesecarpets are renowned for a balanced distribution of motifs, their unique wool and quality craftsmenship. Natural dyes used in Yahyali are those produced from wine leaves, wild mint, walnut shell and buckthon. Thispiece is in excellent condition. The rug measures 77"x41.5"
