In Verrier's view (1991) Younghusband was politically naïve, pursuing a chivalrous quest rather than a strategic mission, and exceeded his brief even by advancing to Lhasa. French (1994) presents the Tibet mission as the embodiment of empire at its overstretched zenith … (ODNB).ALSO WITH THIS LOT: (1) ELLIS ( Wm. ).
