(1801 - 1877) Leader of the Mormon church woo succeeded Joseph Smith as head of the church and led the mass migration to Salt Lake Valley. Young was also the first governor of Utah Territory. Important partly-printed D.S. "Brigham Young", 1p. 8" x 3 1/2", Salt Lake City, July 9, 1872, a check issued by Young's Utah Southern Railroad Company in the amount of $1,000 made payable to "M. N. Davis" citing "Advanced Charges". Signed by Young as President, and by GEORGE SWAN as Secretary. Slightly dampstained at right barely affecting one letter in signature, else very good. Young established the railroad in order to connect Mormon communities in the southern part of the state with the capitol at Salt Lake.
