A group of three watercolors and a silverpoint/autographed letter signed. Artist: Xavier Martinez (1869-1943). Title/Description: Micaela dancing (Series of three); and Micaela in dance pose (silverpoint on letter). Signature: The series of three are unsigned, but titled in Xavier Martinez's hand. The silverpoint is signed with monogram in the image (and the letter signed). Date: c. 1920s. Size: Series 7 1/2in x 6 1/8in to 8 1/2in x 5 3/8in (see below for ALS). Medium/Ground: Watercolor on paper; silverpoint/pastels on letter. Condition: Overall good; toning, light spotting, small edge tears. ALS, The letter, 6in x 9in (folded twice), writing on both sides, with silverpoint illustration of his daughter (signed with monogram in image); dated from Piedmont, March 15, 1921. It is addressed to "My dear Queen of the Bees", and at closing "Ruth -- Queen of the Bees". The addressee is possibly Ruth Hampton , a friend of the family who is referenced in Micaela's childhood letters from France in 1922-23 (See lot of letters from Elsie and Harriet Dean's Paris trip). Martinez writes of recovering from being ill and waiting for Elsie and Kay (Kai) to return. He also writes: "I do not blame you for getting away from the 'Nuts' I wish you could get a place with normal people -- and leave the 'Nuts' for good!". He signs: "Marty, High Chief of Nub Hill".
