In the 1920s, his art was impressionist, in the 1930s regionalist, and in the 1940s modernist and surrealist; in the 1950s abstract expressionist. After yielding to complete abstraction, Gonzalez then chose to embrace all of these styles, and he switched back and forth effortlessly.

Xavier Gonzalez signed the back of this canvas, Xavier Gonzalez A. N. A., which stands for Associate National Academician. He was later awarded full Academician from the National Academy of Design, an honor few Texas artists have achieved.

In this painting, Gonzalez returns to the realist tradition with a painting of one of his favorite subjects, the white rose.

Provenance:
Estate of Xavier GonzalezCondition Report: Excellent condition with no restorations.
