This is an antique circa 1868 lithograph print from the French periodical Le Geant featuring a caricature drawing by Henri Meyer. The subject is Jules Favre. Printed by Michels-Carre. We have four of these in this catalog, all different, and they are the only four that we have. They are rather hard to come by - this is the first time we have come across any.

Jules Claude Gabriel Favre (21 March 1809 - 20 January 1880) was a French statesman. After the establishment of the Third Republic in September 1870, he became one of the leaders of the Opportunist Republicans faction. In 1858 he was elected deputy for Paris, and was one of the "Five" who gave the signal for the republican opposition to the Empire. In 1863 he became the head of his party, and delivered a number of addresses denouncing the Mexican expedition and the occupation of Rome. These addresses, eloquent, clear, and incisive, won him a seat in the Academie francaise in 1867.

The majority of it is in excellent condition except for some light denting and light wrinkles; there is a little more wrinkling around the left corners where the paper is attached to the paperboard. There is some wrinkling of the paperboard and print toward the top of the right edge plus some light water staining on the print (and some staining on the paperboard) where they got damp at some point. The paperboard has a couple of softened corners.
