This is an antique circa 1868 lithograph print from the French periodical Le Geant featuring a caricature drawing by Henri Meyer. The subject is Adolphe Thiers. Printed by Michels-Carre. We have four of these in this catalog, all different, and they are the only four that we have. They are rather hard to come by - this is the first time we have come across any.

Marie Joseph Louis Adolphe Thiers (April 15, 1797 - September 3, 1877) was a French politician and historian of the French Revolution. He wrote a multi-volume history that argued that the republicanism of the Revolution was the central theme of modern French history. Thiers served as prime minister in 1836, 1840 and 1848. He was a vocal opponent of Emperor Napoleon III, who reigned from 1848–71. Following the overthrow of the Second Empire, Thiers again came to power and his suppression of the revolutionary Paris Commune of 1871 killed thousands of Parisians. From 1871 to 1873 he served initially as Head of State (effectively a provisional President of France), then President. He lost power in 1873 to Patrice de Mac-Mahon, Duke of Magenta.

The majority of it is in excellent condition except for some light denting and light wrinkles; there is a little more wrinkling around the left corners where the paper is attached to the paperboard and a tear along the top left edge. There is some wrinkling of the paperboard toward the top of the right edge plus some water staining on the print where they got damp at some point. There is a small chunk missing from the bottom edge of the print. The paperboard has a couple of softened corners.
