<B>XAVIER GONZALEZ (1898-1993)</B></I><BR><I>Ice House,</B></I> early 1940s<BR>Oil on canvas<BR>30in. x 40in.<BR>Signed lower right<BR>Signed and titled verso<BR><BR>This 1940s work by Xavier Gonzalez retains its Regionalist subject matter but it is more abstract and utilizes broad planes of color. The ice house in this painting, which should be a source of refreshment in the hot El Paso summer, is now derelict. It is surrounded by architectural remnants to the right and a dead cow skeleton to the left.
