Separation nut and bolt affiliated with the X-38 Crew Return Vehicle (CRV), evidently a modified variant of the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Booster Parachute Release Nut. The large metal nut measures approximately 4.75è long and 3.5è in diameter, and is sealed in its original cleaning bag and housed in its Hi-Shear Technology Corp. box, identifying it as "Part Number: 10309-0011-802, Item Name: Nut Release Parachute‰Û_Date of Manufacture: 07/97." The 9è bolt is etched on the head with part numbers, "SPS 01, 95881-20," and includes its SPS Technologies box. In fine condition. The X-38 was being developed by NASA to provide space station astronauts with an emergency return option, but the project never reached maturity/implementation due to budget cuts in 2002.
