Featured in this lot is a Wyoming Pronghorn Taxidermy Wood Plaque Wall Mount from Antler Taxidermy and Arts Mike Herrick, Sculptor / Taxidermist Casper, Wyoming, information attached on plaque reverse. Mike Herrick is the son of the late Doug Herrick of international "Jackelope" fame. It was Doug and his younger brother Ralph, who created the first "jackelope", a hybrid animal that would go on to become the most famous, beloved and profitable taxidermy hoax in the world. while the horned rabbit is unalloyed Americana — a genuine artifact of this country’s folk culture — the mythical beast has also made its way across the oceans and around the world.
The Pronghorn, often referred to as an American Antelope, or simply Antelope, is actually closely related to the Giraffe and is part of the Giraffoidea super family, making it a distant relative to the more similar deer, antelope, and gazelles. This mount, in particular, shows two prominent antlers, each with an additional "prong". Copper colour suede leather wrapped. Finished hardwood plaque. In very good condition with no marring noted. Prongs measure 10"L including curvatures approximately, 4.5"W. Whole mount measures 12"W x 17"L
