(Wright Brothers) Newspaper, "Fitchburg Daily Sentinel", Fitchburg, Mass, 14pp, Dec 18, 1903, a small article on page 3 reports the first successful airplane flight. "THIS AIRSHIP WENT LIKE A BIRD. Norfolk, Va., Dec. 18. - A successful trial airship was made at Kitty Hawk, N.C., by Wilbur and Orville Wright, Dayton, Ohio. The machine flew three miles in the face of the wind and landed gracefully at the spot chosen by navigators." The story was slighty in error - the day before, Dec 17th, Orville made the first powered flight, which lasted only 12 seconds. Several hours later Wilbur made a flight of 51 seconds, but the plane, forced down by a sudden gust of wind, was so damaged that no further flights was possible. File holes at left margin. Small paper loss at botton margin and upper corner. Light overall toning, overall VG. $300-400
