Gelle <BR><BR></B></I> This large marble sculpture depicts a scene in which a wounded soldier, his sword lying by his side, is flanked by two good Samaritans: one, a cloaked gentleman in buttoned boots, and the other, a nun, wiping the soldier's brow with her handkerchief.<BR><BR>Jules Gelle, a painter and sculptor born in Anzin, was well-known for his bronze and marble sculptures of military figures. His ability to describe fine detail--such as the particulars of the soldier's uniform, his goatee and moustache--brought him success in Paris.
