<Our item number 122527><B>World War Two &#34;A-Bomb Island&#34; Tinian Trench Art.</B> A pair of candlesticks made from two Japanese 25mm naval anti-aircraft gun shells. Each is about 6.75&#34; high and hand decorated with stippling to produce scenes of a palm tree with the sun setting over the ocean and the phrase &#34;Tinian Island 1945.&#34; Each shell with Japanese navy markings at bottom and pierced fuses having been fired at American forces during the invasion of the island.<BR>After almost 2000 Marine casualties incurred while securing Tinian, the Seabees transformed it into the largest airport in the world with four runways each 8500 feet long for B-29s attacking Japan.
