Collection of important military leader’s autographs and vintage photographs of the two most significant surrenders of the Allied Countries to Japan in World War II—the Philippines and Singapore. The collection includes three items: Japanese paper currency 6.5 x 2.75, signed in ink on the front by Tomoyuki Yamashita and on the reverse by Masaharu Homma. Both Japanese Imperial Army generals have signed in both English and Japanese; Fountain pen signature, “Arthur E. Percival—Lt. Gen.,” on a white 3.5 x 2.25 card; and a mailing envelope, 6.5 x 3.75, addressed by Jonathan Matthew Wainwright, with his return address written in the upper left corner: “J. M. Wainwright, Lieut. Genl. U.S.A., Manila P.I.” Postmarked September 4, 1945, just two days after the end of the war. Wainwright was the commander of US forces in the Philippines after Douglas MacArthur. In overall very good to fine condition, with the Japanese note bearing the handwritten notations “Luzon POW Camp #1” and “20 Feb 1946.” Accompanied by two unsigned vintage 8 x 6 photos of the Japanese surrender of the Philippines and Singapore with Japanese caption information, and an unsigned modern print of MacArthur at the Japanese surrender.
