World War II Underwood M1 Carbine with M1A1 Paratrooper Stock and Canvas Storage Bag

This is a very nice example of a late WWII Underwood carbine manufactured in early 1944 with an original WWII paratrooper folding stock. The M1A1 carbines has always been highly desirable and a center piece of any WWII martial arms collection. This is a late war model that was refurbished for the Korean War. The rear of the receiver is marked: "UNDERWOOD/2804770". The barrel is marked "UNDERWOOD/1-44/ordnance bomb" and it is fitted with all original GI parts mostly made by the Inland Division or their subcontractor. It is fitted with a milled adjustable rear sight marked PI, with a type 3 barrel band/bayonet lug marked "JM", flat Inland bolt with a type three Inland marked trigger housing and operating slide. Currently it is fitted with an original WWII low wood M1A1 folding paratrooper stock marked "IO" inside the forend. The handguard is an early two rivet version with the deep sighting groove. The stock is stamped with a partial "AAI" cartouche on the left side with a "P" proof on the inside of the pistol grip with a small crossed cannon cartouche on the right side. The wire stock has a leather cheek pad held on with steel rivets, that has the faint cast in mold numbers on the back side of the buttplate. It is complete with one original WWII "SW" marked magazine and a green canvas storage bag.

Very fine as arsenal rebuilt with 95% of a dark green the Korean war era refurbished parkerized finish overall with finish loss on the receiver side rail and top of the bolt. The stock is very good with a nice oil finish overall with visible cartouche and proofmarks showing only minor handing marks. Mechanically fine condition. A nice example of a WWII Underwood carbine with a M1A1 paratrooper stock.
