World War II U.S. Remington Model 1903A4 Sniper Rifle with M82 Telescopic Sight

Model 1903A4 Sniper rifle manufactured by the Remington Arms Co., in 1943. The rifle has a blue M82 Telescopic Sight with tapered post reticle and sliding sunshade. The left side of the scope body is roll-stamped with "TELESCOPE M82" above the serial number and the stock number; the markings are partially obscured by the scope rings. The telescopic sight has the original blue finish with parkerized rings and a standard parkerized Redfield mount with casehardened coarse adjustment screws. The rifle has the distinctive Model 1903A4 features which include Type "C" scant grip stock with bolt relief cut-out, modified bolt handle, rear sight removed to accommodate the scope mount and a barrel with no front sight base or blade. The rifle is original and has not been Ordnance overhauled. The bolt, barrel bands, sling, stacking swivels, magazine cut-off and trigger retain the original blue finish. The buttplate, receiver and telescopic sight base have the original gray-green parkerized finish. The receiver markings "U.S./REMINGTON/MODEL 03-A3" are marked on the left side to allow them to be viewed with the scope mount in place. The serial number, "3420475" is located on the right side of the receiver below the scope mount. The barrel is roll-stamped "RA" above the Ordnance "Shell and Flame" insignia and the date "7-43". The bolt body, cocking piece, cut-off and most of the other rifle components are stamped with the Remington "R". There are five Remington inspection marks stamped on the underside of the stock in front of the trigger guard and the "W" stock-maker's mark is stamped on the inside of the pistol grip. The left side of the stock below the receiver is stamped "RA" followed by the Ordnance Escutcheon and the Ordnance final inspection mark "FJA" in a rectangle. A circled "P" proof mark is stamped on the inside of the pistol grip. The M1903A4 Sniper rifles were initially fitted with Weaver M73 Telescopic Sights. Rifles that remained in service following WWII frequently were upgraded and fitted with the superior M81 or M82 telescopic sights.

Very fine. The rifle shows light-moderate handling wear and retains at least 90% of the original blue and parkerized finish. The stock is very good overall with scattered minor scratches and handling marks. The barrel and receiver markings are crisp. All of the Ordnance and Remington markings on the stock are sharp. The M82 Telescopic Sight has more than 90% of the blue finish intact. The optics are excellent. Nearly all Remington M1903A4 rifles were arsenal overhauled following WWII. Model 1903A4 rifles with original finish and components and no Ordnance rebuild marks are rare. This is a very fine example of a Remington Model 1903A4 Sniper rifle in very fine condition with upgraded M82 Telescopic Sight.
