Winchester Model 12 shotgun manufactured in 1942. This scare, U.S. marked, Model 12 Riot Gun has a commercial blue finish. The stock and forearm are varnished walnut. The stock is fitted with a black, hard rubber, checkered buttplate with the round Winchester logo in the center. The shotgun does not have sling swivels. "U.S." and the Ordnance "Shell and Flame" insignia are roll-stamped on the right side of the receiver below the ejection port. A small "Shell and Flame" insignia is stamped on the top of the barrel just head of the Winchester proofmark. The Ordnance final inspection mark which consists of the initials "W.B." in a rectangle above a small (1/4-inch) Ordnance escutcheon is stamped on the left side of the stock. The right side of the barrel is roll-stamped with the legend: "MADE IN NEW HAVEN CONN U.S.OF AMERICA/-WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL-" in two lines followed by "WINCHESTER/-TRADE MARK-" in two lines and "-MODEl 12-12 GA.-23/4 CHAM./CYL". The underside of the barrel is dated "42" (1942). The oval Winchester "W/P" proofmark is stamped on the top of the barrel and receiver. The serial number, "960539" is roll-stamped on the underside of the barrel and receiver. A small "W" inspection mark is stamped on the underside of the receiver in front of the loading port. A rack number "18" is stamped on the bottom of the stock pistol grip.

Condition: Very fine. The shotgun retains 80% plus of the original high polish blue finish. Wear is limited to minor finish loss on the high-points of the receiver and barrel band and contact marks on the magazine tube and slide. The stock and forearm are in very good condition and have had a coat of varnish applied with scattered handling marks. The Ordnance inspection marks on the left side of the stock are sharp. This is an example of a scarce U.S. contract, Winchester Model 12 Riot shotgun.
