World War II U.S. Army Contract Springfield Armory M1 Garand Semi-Automatic Rifle

This is a very nice example of a early WWII US Army contract, M1 Garand rifle that was manufactured by Springfield Armory in late 1942. This rifle is accompanied by a data sheet listing all the various parts and associated markings. The rifle has a standard WWII Springfield Armory receiver markings over serial number "938391", with the barrel marked "S-A-10-42" and a double small "P" proof at the end of the markings. The "D" on the wartime operating rod was removed when it was modified with the relief cut. It has a milled trigger housing and trigger guard. It has the correct early style "Battle Sight" marked elevation knob with the locking bar windage knob with the narrow base front sight without the cup seal on the front sight screw. Early narrow, wartime gas cylinder (with the later cross cut modification) with a "1" on the tail and it is fitted with an unmarked, round top gas cylinder lock with a single slot gas cylinder plug. Fitted with an original GI walnut stock and hand guard stamped with a boxed "SA/EMcF" cartouche on the left side with a single "P" proof in the grip area. Comes with an original 5 piece cleaning rod and plastic oiler tube in the buttstock compartment.

Manufacture: Springfield Armory U.S.
Model: M1
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 30-06
Finish: parkerize
Grips:
Serial Number: 938391

Very fine as restored with 85% of the original greenish parkerized finish overall, with edge and high spot wear with finish loss on the right side receiver rail. The gas cylinder has been refinished as well as the rear sight adjustment knobs. The stock and handguard set is in fine condition, never having been sanded or Arsenal refurbished, but shows considerable handling marks, light pressure dents overall with numerous marks on the right side of the buttstock. Mechanically excellent. As noted this early WWII M1 comes with a complete listing of all the various marks on the parts and assembly numbers.
