This is a late WWII German turret sniper rifle manufactured by the Mauser factory that has been fitted with a "bmj" marked sniper scope. The turret mount rifles were introduction in 1939 and used through out WWII. The receiver ring is covered by the front scope base, however it probably marked "bfy/44" and both the right and left sides of the receiver are marked with a single "Eagle 135" acceptance proof. In addition to that, the left side of the receiver and barrel are both stamped with a single "Eagle" proof, with the receiver side wall marked "Mod. 98". The left rear side of the scope base is also stamped with a single "Eagle/135" acceptance proof. The rifle is fitted with a standard wartime, laminated handguard and stock that is fitted with a cupped buttplate. The right side of the buttstock and inside of the pistol grip are both proofed with a faint "Eagle/WaA135" Waffenamt proofmark. The rifle has unnumbered milled barrel bands, a stamped trigger guard and floor plate. The trigger guard and floor plate both have a "Eagle/135" acceptance proofs and the trigger guard is numbered "2834". The rifle itself has a standard front sight with the military style tangent rear sight graduated to 200 meters. The rifle is fitted with WWII, blued Hensoldt sniper scope that is marked on the right side, "DIALYTAN 4x/74137/bmj". It has the correct turret rings with the front ring numbered "28166". This rifle is complete with a sheet metal front sight cover, a cleaning rod and a WWII brown leather sling.
BBL: 23 1/2 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 7.92 mm Mauser
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 42834
Condition: Very fine as restored with half of a partially touched up blue finish overall with even light wear overall. The stock and handguard are both very good overall with minor handling marks, scratches and light pressure dents and dings, which has been varnished, but not sanded. The middle and front bands are both replacements. The scope and rings have 85% of it's original blue finish, with the front and rear ocular piece being black painted, with clear optics and markings on the side. The bolt assembly has been numbered to match the rifle. Overall a nice example of a rare and desirable Nazi sniper rifle.
