World War II British No. 4 Mk I (T) Sniper Rifle with Chest and Accessories

Manufactured by BSA in 1943. Selected No. 4 Mk II rifles were converted by Holland & Holland to sniper configuration. The stock is fitted with the distinctive sniper cheek rest. The No. 32 MK 1 telescopic sight has the standard pointer and cross wire reticle with click adjustable windage and elevation knobs. The cast mount is attached to the receiver by two large screws that clamp to pads screwed to the sides of the receiver. The sight and mount were serial numbered to the rifle by Holland & Holland. The rifle has a specially modified rear sight that has the battle sight removed to provide clearance for the scope but retains the screw adjustable peep. The left side of the buttstock socket is stamped with the manufacturer's code, the date of manufacture, serial number and "Telescope Rifle" (TR) designation ("M47C/1943/AN6058/TR"). "T" is boldly stamped on the left side of the receiver indicating that the rifle was selected for sniper conversion. The Holland & Holland "S 51" code is stamped on the bottom of the butt; the "S 51" code was applied to all No. 4 Mk I (T) rifles converted to sniper configuration by Holland & Holland. The serial rifle number is stamped on the left side of the scope mount, the rear of the bolt handle and the underside of the forearm. The sight tube is marked "TEL: STG: No 32 MK 1/H.M.B. Co. OS 466A/REG. No.3531" above the British Army Broad Arrow property mark. The serial number of the original telescopic sight fitted to the rifle "5076" is stamped on the stock wrist. The rear scope rings are numbered "D527" and front rings are numbered " D528". With a No. 8 MK 2 rubberized canvas scope case and strap, correct U.S Model 1907 WWII leather sling, reproduction leather lens covers, wooden transit chest and Savage spike bayonet and scabbard. The scope case is stenciled with the serial number "X32442" and the scope number "24518". The chest has an instruction label glued to the inside of the lid and various British Army markings stenciled on the exterior.

Fine. The rifle was factory overhauled and fitted with a replacement telescopic sight. The left side of the scope base appears to have been re-numbered during overhaul. The rifle retains about 80% of the black phosphate finish. The markings on the left side of the receiver, butt socket, stock and forearm are light. The telescopic sight retains 95% of the original black phosphate finish. The optics are very fine and both the windage and elevation knobs turn freely. The scope markings are sharp. The scope mount has 80% of the black finish with considerable wear on the left side. The stock, forearm, handguard and cheekpiece were sanded during overhaul. The stock is very good with minor handling and storage wear. The canvas scope case is complete and excellent. The transit chest is complete and good overall, 40% of the green painted finish is present on the outside of the case. This is a very good example of a desirable British WWII No. 4 Mk 1 (T) Sniper Rifle with case and accessories.
