This is a nice example of an all original, mid-1940 production luger as manufactured by the Mauser factory with the all blued parts. The top of the chamber is dated 1940 and it has the '42' code marking on the front toggle. This was the first year for the change to the wartime '42' code makings for Mauser produced lugers. It has the later "Eagle/655'' Waffenamt proofs on the barrel extension and underside of the barrel, along with the single eagle firing proof in both locations, as well as the right side of the breechblock. It has the standard "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" on the upper safety area and extractor, respectively. It is fitted with standard checkered walnut grips and is complete with one all blued, unmarked magazine with an aluminum base that is marked '6728f +' with the single eagle 63 Waffenamt proof.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 4160e
Condition: Excellent with 95% of the slightly faded original wartime blued finish, with some minor blue loss on the high point. The grips are very good plus condition with nice checkering on both sides with the left side showing a light pressure dent or scratch directly in the middle of the left grip panel. This luger has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above. A very nice example of a pre-WWII luger pistol.
