Somber original color 28 x 45 World War I poster printed circa 1914, displaying artwork by Alonzo Foringer reminiscent of the ‘Pieta’ that shows a pensive nurse cradling a wounded soldier as a mother would her child. The the symbol of the Red Cross is prominently featured in the background, and the text in a box at the bottom reads, “The Greatest Mother in the World.” Printed in the bottom border is “Form N.Y. 32. Second War Fund.” Poster has been professionally linen-backed to a slightly larger size. In very good condition, with two repaired tears to the right side (one being relatively small and the other passing from the edge to the center in the blank area between the image and text).
