World War I DWM Model 1914 Navy Luger Dated 1916

This is a solid example of an original 1914 DWM Navy Luger with "1916"" chamber date. These later 1914 model Navy Luger are very distinctive in that they lack the grip safety, fitted with a stock lug and have the flat checkered toggles. These Navy Lugers were issued during the early part of WWI and then subsequently reissued during the Weimar period where most were altered to conform to the Treaty of Versailles by being modified to a short barrel configuration. This version still retains the longer six-inch barrel with the correct two-position Navy rear sight adjustable from 100-200 meters. As noted the chamber is dated 1916, as well as the left frame rail and front sight base. The front toggle has the standard "DWM" logo, with a single "Crown" firing proof next to two "Crown/M" Navy proofs, on the left side of the barrel extension. The left side of the barrel also has a single Crown firing proof with a small "Crown/M" proof and the underside of the barrel. It is complete with a WWI era nickel plate magazine with a wooden base.

Manufucture: DWM

BBL: 6 inch round
Stock:
Guage: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 2152

Very fine with 70% of the faded blue finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots with some thinning on the barrel. The various small parts retain traces of their straw colors overall. The grips are very good with nice original checkering on both sides showing original handling marks with light pressured dents on a few spots. The Luger has all matching numbers except the magazine with both of the German Navy firing/acceptance proofs with one proof the barrel having been slightly peened out. A very nice original example of a WWI Imperial German Navy Luger.
