World War I Colt U.S. Army Contract Model 1911 Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is just an absolutely like new WWI U.S. Army contract Model 1911 pistol as manufactured by the Colt Firearms Company in 1918. This pistol has the new style block letter markings without serifs with the Colt military brushed blue finish (not a black army finish). The left side of the slide has the standard Colt factory two-line, two-block markings with the Rampant Colt behind the slide serrations. The right side is marked "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY". The left side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY", has the circled "JMG" proof of LTC J.M. Gilbert above the magazine release and the right side is stamped with the serial number "249450". The pistol has the original WWI parts such as the checkered Colt wide spur hammer, flat mainspring housing, checkered slide stop and type III thumb safety. It is fitted with a WWI Colt barrel that is marked over the chamber area with the separated "H" and "P" proofmarks with only a number "5" on the underside of the barrel in front of the lug. This outstanding WWI Colt pistol has the original diamond pattern checkered walnut grips and comes with a correct WWI Colt subcontract half-tone blued magazine, made by the American-Pin company with the correct small capital "A" on the front of the magazine lip.

Manufacture: Colt

BBL: 5 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 45 ACP
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut checkered
Serial Number: 249450

Excellent with 97% plus of the original blue finish overall with a hint of blue loss on top of rear slide behind ejection port and front edges of the slide with the lower section of the mainspring housing just starting to thin and brown out slightly. Mechanically excellent. The grips are also excellent with nice sharp checkering on both sides with some slight wood loss around lower left grip screw. A truly exceptional WWI Colt Model 1911 pistol.
